20s & 30s
((I have to mention that this is my least favorite unit and is the least important and therefore this page will be not so great and I'm sorry))
after war
After the War ended the economy was down. They had too many people and not enough jobs. All of the women whom had jobs during the war lost them once the men came home. Long story short everyone has to adapt to new living conditions and jobs. Heroes of war were treated like nothing. Women lost their rights and role in society. Injured soldiers needed to adapt from physical work. All minorities lost their war time privileges. So time after war was filled with tension as peopled struggled with their lack of rights.
Winnipeg strike
The Winnipeg general strike was the first time that the workers of the country fought back for their rights. It started in Winnipeg the 15th of May through the 25th of June. The workers all stepped out to fight against the terrible working conditions and it resulted in riots and strikes elsewhere.

the 20s
Prohibition
Prohibition was the law that made the consumption and sale of alcohol. It was said that the consumption of alcohol was slowing down the economic success. The first act of prohibition was seen in 1901 and the last in 1948 all of which were in Prince Edward Island. To avoid the laws people were feigning sickness and using the boose as medicine. There was also an underground market and bootlegging to sell the product illegally. The 20s were the rise of the gangsters like Al Capone (COOL HATS).

indirect causes of the 30s
There were many indirect causes for the great depression. Most of which deal with our economic cycle in the North American culture and as you all know from class I am oh so economically aware (that's a lie). But I will try the best that I can. So once everyone had bought all the radios they needed there was a dwindle in sales and then there was a surplus in product. The prices for product then went up because there wasn't enough being sold. People were let go because there wasn't a demand for workers and those people let go couldn't buy anything because there was no money to spend. The cycle goes on until one day the economy dropped.
stock market crash
The stock market crash was the direct for the Great Depression. Everyone had their money invested in the stock market and when it fell everyone was effected as it was the lead into the Great Depression.

The drought
During the depression of the thirties there was a series of unfortunate events in which Canada's prairie was destroyed (it was also Canada's #1 way of making the cash flow). There were things like dust storms and humungo bugs. The prairies were a mess and some areas were hit less than others, this resulted in a divide between the successful farmers and those who fell into more and more disrepair.

The Depression
What I want you guys to understand is that the depression was that it affected everyone. Conditions of life were terrible and learning it in class as lessons makes it hard for you to picture. You guys learn numbers and number are unfathomable, 11 million people died in the Holocaust, you understand that to be terrible but you cannot fathom the lives of those people. Just as you cannot fathom the lives of those who lived through the Depression. So I would suggest watching some movies (best studying ever) cause you guys can use some visuals. Cinderella Man is what we watched in class but there's some others that will be helpful to y'all. Annie, The Color Purple, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Bonnie and Clyde, AND FINALLY THAT MOVIE ABOUT THE LITTLE GIRL WHO WANTS TO BE A JOURNALIST AND THEN HER FAMILY LOOSES EVERYTHING AND THEY HAVE TO RENT THE ROOMS OUT. WHOEVER CAN TELL ME THE TITLE WILL GET ALL MY LOVE FOREVER AND EVER, ALSO A CERTIFICATE TO PROVE IT.
